MELLON PARK
The Prettiest Place in Pittsburgh...?
I know of it. You know of it. Everyone knows of it. If you live in Pittsburgh's east end, you have likely had your picture taken at Mellon Park. And for good reason! It's gorgeous! But as my photographer friend put it after a particularly pretty day in the fall, "It looked like a photographer's convention!" In other words, it can get quite busy during peak season.
Mellon Park, at the corner of Fifth Ave. and Shady Ave., has a collection of stunning backdrops that can not be beat - in any season. In the central Walled Garden, you'll find brick walls, a fountain, decorative iron gates, and the iconic gray stone wall. In the area surrounding it, there are stairs, benches, fields, flowers, epic trees, and walking paths. A couple of things to consider when choosing Mellon Park: there might be a slight walk from your parking spot, bathrooms are usually unavailable, and (as stressed above) it can be crowded. However, if you are looking for a refined, romantic, beautiful-in-all-seasons backdrop for your family portrait session, Mellon Park will be the perfect fit.
